5 Step DIY Tutu Skirt From Scratch

We are officially 5 days away from the 2018 NFL season! I realized recently that Harper had no Bronco outfits! Then I quickly discovered that shopping for cute Bronco outfits for little girls these day is like shopping for a wedding dress… I’m sorry but I’m not spending 50 bucks on a Bronco outfit that Harper will fit into for just a few months! With this DIY skirt, you have an ADORABLE little skirt for any occasion for less than 5 bucks and 5 steps…it’s SO EASY! No fancy tools or sewing involved.

The Maynard and Hansen households have been HUGE Bronco fans for…basically forever… so naturally, Harper is going to grow up a Bronco fan 😂. Part of the fun with having a baby girl is getting to dress her up in ADORABLE outfits right? Well Bronco Sunday is the perfect time, she can look cute and girly and still have fun watching football with her daddy.

How to Make a DIY Tutu Skirt From Scratch

1. Get your materials-You can choose your colors:

  • Blue & Orange Tulle- Get at your local craft store, or Amazon Prime. Click here to for tulle!
  • 3/4″ Thick White Ribbon

2. Measure waist length. Cut extra ribbon to grow into & to tie in a bow

3. Cut a template strip of tulle: Cut this first strip so that when you fold it in half and place the center of the tulle at the ribbon, the ends come about to the knees or your desired length (remember- you can always cut the tulle shorter at the end, but you can’t make it longer). You’ll use this strip as a guideline when cutting the rest of your tulle.

4. Cut several pieces of tulle using your template strip to measure.

5. Fold tulle in half and lay it flat. Place the ribbon on top the center fold, leaving a hole. Take the two end pieces back up, over the ribbon and through the hole so the tulle is wrapped tight onto the ribbon

Your tulle should look like this. You’ll continue to alternate colors. Do not go to the end of the ribbon. When you feel like you’re close, wrap around the waist and check to see how much more tulle is needed. You can put the tulle close together and tighter for more poof, or spread the tulle out a bit more for less poof.

Now all you need is a matching shirt and some football leggings (I got these at Hobby Lobby for $3!) and baby girl is ready for game day!!
